Fundraiser to be Held for George E Morrison Summer Camp

Mass Maritime - 1YARMOUTH – A summer camp at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy will instill its youth with the same ideals and opportunities Brian Morrison said his father, George E. Morrison, gave youth throughout his life.

But first, they need to fundraise.

An event on Saturday will raise money for the George E. Morrison Training Village’s operations.

It will take place at the Yarmouth Senior Center from 5 to 7 p.m. for VIPs and from 7 to 11 p.m. for standard ticket holders.

Brian said his father, a former police officer, regularly coached young people in both sports and the ways of the world.

“He was very involved, coaching in basketball and volleyball and helping other kids, as well as raising us,” Morrison said. “My vision is to give kids a little extra push; when it comes time to put something on a resume, I hope this will help them.”

According to Morrison, the camp is scheduled to open in July of 2017 and is already mostly set up. But it will require operational costs, since Morrison said he wants youth to attend free of charge.

The VIP ceremony, which costs $50 per person, will include a performance by The Trish Adams Trio.

The regular ceremony will feature a “tribute to Sinatra” by Bart Weisman and the Cape Conservatory jazz ensemble, and will cost $40 per person.
