Fundraiser to Benefit Retired Police K-9s

K9 DOGWEST YARMOUTH – The annual Cape & Islands Police K-9 Relief Fund Reception and Fundraiser Auction will be held on Sunday.

The 11th annual event will feature a silent auction, raffle, music and hors d’oeuvres with all proceeds benefiting retired police dogs in the area.

“It’s for medical bills,” said event organizer Joe Ambrosini. “So any dog that retires, and Yarmouth has a dog that is retiring medically, we will pay for that dog’s vet bills until he passes.”

Police K-9 handlers care for their retired partners which can be a burden as they can live for a long time after their service has ended.

“Everybody that knows and takes a cat or the dog, or even a snake, to the vet, it’s not cheap,” Ambrosini said. “It’s very expensive.”

Ambrosini said that all the money that is raised by the organization goes to the animals.

“Nobody gets paid in this non-profit. We do it because it is the right thing to do,” Ambrosini said. “All of this money goes to the dogs and I have to stress that because sometimes non-profits don’t do that.”

The fundraising event will be held at the Yarmouth House Restaurant on Route 28 beginning at 3 p.m. A suggested donation of $50 will be accepted at the door.
