CHATHAM – The Global Warming Express is headed to Cape Cod as Pleasant Bay Community Boating’s latest environmental science and stewardship offering.

The program is described as a “By Kids/For Kids climate, arts and advocacy think tank,” and was co-founded in New Mexico by Marina Weber, a 9-year-old girl who used to live on the Cape.

The Global Warming Express’ mission is to expand awareness of climate change through after-school and summer programs, and to promote youth civic engagement and activism.

The two week program starting on Monday, August 1 will teach children basic environmental and climate science through morning classroom sessions and afternoon field work.

The students will study the water cycle on site at Muddy Creek and learn about geology by visiting a beach once covered by a glacier. They’ll also study photosynthesis and the carbon cycle on a forest walk, along with learning marine science on a whale watch.

The program is designed for kids 8 to 12 years of age and there are still a few spots available.

The cost is $500 and more information can be found at theglobalwarmingexpress.org or the Global Warming Express Cape Cod Facebook page.

To register a child contact Genie Stevens by email to [email protected] or by phone at 505-660-2157.
