WEST TISBURY – The Martha’s Vineyard community is rallying around a West Tisbury farm.

Early Tuesday morning a fire engulfed the Flat Point barn and killed 50 chickens, a flock of sheep, and two beef cattle. The tragedy has inspired many to donate to assist the farm in getting back on their feet.

A GoFund Me page was created by a relative of the Fischer family who has owned the farm for 80 years.

The goal set on the crowd funding site was set at $50,000 which as of Thursday morning was already surpassed by over $10,000. The donations came from just under 500 people.

Many locals frequent the farm with some purchasing fresh meat and eggs and others visiting on school field trips. The fire was thought to be started by a heat lamp and is not considered suspicious.
