CENTERVILLE – Gov. Charlie Baker campaigned on Cape Cod and the South Shore Saturday for fellow Republicans who are also running for re-election this year.

Baker, considered one of the most popular Republican governors in the nation according to polling data, began the day in Plymouth.

He gathered with Plymouth/Barnstable State Senator Vinny deMacedo in Plymouth at two local breakfast cafes before heading to the Cape.

Two Democrats, Stephen Michael Palmer and Deborah Rudolph, are vying in the Tuesday primary to take on deMacedo.

In Dennis, Baker spent time knocking on doors with incumbent 1st District Republican State Representative Tim Whelan, who is also facing a challenge in the general election.

Democrats Joshua Mason and Steve Leibowitz are seeking the Democratic nomination for that seat.

Later in the afternoon, Gov. Baker campaigned in Centerville with incumbent 2nd Barnstable Republican State Representative Will Crocker.

Baker and Crocker talked with voters about several issues, ranging from the opioid epidemic, jobs, and public safety.

“I was very pleased to have Governor Baker join me knocking doors today in Centerville. He was able to hear first-hand about the concerns of our community,” said Crocker in a statement.

“My strong relationship with the Baker/Polito administration allows me to better advocate for the Towns of Barnstable and Yarmouth.”

Crocker will face a challenge in November from Democrat Paul Cusack, who is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

Baker ended his day with campaign supporters at an annual gathering on Duxbury State Beach.

He’s facing a challenge on Tuesday from Springfield Pastor Scott Lively.
