BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker said he has high hopes about the decision by Dell to buy Hopkinton-based data storage company EMC.

Baker said in a statement Monday that EMC has been an anchor of the Massachusetts technology economy for decades, and that he’s “optimistic that the newly combined Dell-EMC enterprise systems unit will have a robust presence locally for years to come.”

The deal is valued at approximately $67 billion and is expected to give Dell a major presence in the data storage market.

The Republican governor said his administration “is committed to driving business development and talent attraction by strengthening the state’s diverse technology ecosystem.”

EMC employees and executives are hefty campaign donors in Massachusetts, having contributed nearly $80,000 to Baker since 2009.
