Governor Baker to Honor Local Heroes During Annual Firefighter Award Ceremony

WORCESTERCape Cod will be well represented as Governor Charlie Baker will recognize heroic acts of bravery during the 27th annual “Firefighter of the Year” awards being held today in Worcester.

Hyannis firefighter Barry Pina will be honored as this year’s recipient of the community service award. Pina, a 32-year veteran of the department, is described as a “tireless champion for causes that help children and promote safety.”

Over the last 20 years, Pina has helped raised $300,00 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

In addition, retired State Fire Marshall and Falmouth resident Stephen Coan will be presented with the Fire Marshall’s Award.

Coan was the longest-serving State Fire Marshall in Massachusetts history.

Firefighters from Boston, Fitchburg, Lynn, Malden, Saugus, Scituate, Swansea, Watertown, and Weymouth will also be honored at the ceremony.
