Governor-Elect Baker Fills More Positions

BRIGHTON – Governor-elect Charlie Baker announced three appointments to his administration yesterday.

James Peyser was chosen as Secretary of Education.

Peyser has spent the last 20 years as an advocate for educational alternatives and enhancements and has advised three prior governors on education policy.

Dr. Monica Bharel will serve as Commissioner of Public Health and John Lebeaux was named as Commissioner of Agricultural Resources.

Bharel currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, which is dedicated to improving the long-term health and lives of the state’s homeless population.

Lebeaux was the General Manager of his family’s business, Shrewsbury Nurseries, for 26 years, and was a past president of the Massachusetts Nursery and Landscape Association.
