BOURNE – Governor Charlie Baker released his final budget for Fiscal Year 2016 and it includes military mitigation funding for families on Joint Base Cape Cod.

The funding was advocated for by State Senator Vinny deMacedo and state representatives Randy Hunt and David Vieira.

The funding was included in the Senate’s Ways and Means budget and remained in the Conference Committee Report agreed to by the House of Representatives and Senate.

“I am excited that I was able to work with the Administration and my colleagues in the legislature to make sure Governor Baker included military mitigation funding in his final budget,” said deMacedo. “As I have said in the past, the families of Joint Base Cape Cod sacrifice on behalf of our nation and our communities here in Massachusetts. I am proud we were able to do our part to honor that sacrifice and I hope we continue our commitment to supply this funding in the future.”

Military mitigation funding is designed to reimburse communities that host military bases in Massachusetts for the costs of educating students who reside on those bases.

“We appreciate the Governor and Lieutenant Governor’s attention to this matter,” said Hunt. “We look forward to next year’s budget including the funding from the outset.”
