Grand Master Keith Rosary Presented with Hometown Community Hero Award

HYANNIS – Martial Arts Grand Master Keith Rosary has been recognized by the Barnstable Town Council with the Hometown Community Hero Award.

The inaugural award was the brainchild of Hyannis Councilor Jennifer Cullum as an effort for the board to reconnect with the community by highlighting good works within the town.

“I’ve been doing a lot of work over the years as a counselor at prevention programs,” said Cullum, “And the one common threads, whether they’re in school or out of school, whether it’s the YMCA achievers program or whatever, the one element they always talk about is self-esteem and confidence.”

Rosary is the founder of the A-Plus Program which seeks to foster a number of life skills in Cape youth.

Physical health, Mental Health, verbal and social skills, citizenship, self-esteem, confidence, achievement, personal pride, and goal setting are all touchstones of the Rosary’s martial arts program.

“Plus program is a great alternative to some of the electronics that are out there,” said Rosary, “We are losing our kids to electronics and technology, the physical activity level from when we were kids has diminished greatly.”

As part of the ceremony, A-Plus students AJ Gladowski, Dante Maas, Shane Whitman, Jose Luna, and Devaunte Lewis were on hand to show councilors and those assembles some of their skills.
