HARWICH – Another Great White Shark was found washed ashore Saturday night.

It is still unknown whether the 12-foot male was dead when it washed ashore on Pleasant Road Beach.

President of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy Cynthia Wigren said the animal was brought to the Harwich Transfer Station for state shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal to perform a necropsy.

This 12-foot-long male shark marks the third beaching on Cape Cod this season.

“In the other cases, the belief was that since these sharks were found alive that they were chasing prey and just got caught up in shallow water,” Wigren said. “In this case, since it wasn’t alive, we don’t really have that background information on it.”

Wigren said no conclusive evidence was found as to the cause of death.

The Conservancy has spent the summer monitoring sharks near the Chatham coastline. Wigren said the peak of activity occurred in August, compared to last year when shark sightings peaked in September.
