CHATHAM – Vacationers to Cape Cod often book the same week every year and white sharks apparently aren’t any different.

According to scientists with the Massachusetts Shark Research Program, White Shark 14-22, also known as Warrior, was photographed Tuesday, marking the third straight year the shark was captured on film during this week in August.

State shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal, working with researchers with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, also tagged the eleventh white shark of the season on Tuesday, a 14-footer, north of Nauset Light Beach.

The conservancy is in the third year of a five-year white shark population study.

Researchers tagged 24 sharks last year which was up from 18 in 2014.

Last year, 141 great whites were identified in Cape waters which was an increase from 68 in 2014.

Of the sharks identified last year, 101 were sharks that had not been previously spotted.
