Groundbreaking Planned for New Cape Tech High School

HARWICH – Officials with Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, the Massachusetts School Building Administration, the State’s Education Commissioner and other notable political figures will be in Harwich Friday for the groundbreaking for the New Cape Cod Regional Technical High School.

Marshfield-based Brait Builders is the lead contractor on the project, the company’s bid of $91,376,000 was the lowest and about $13 million below initial cost estimates.

The new school will be centered around the STEAM educational model: science, technology, engineering, the arts and math. In addition, hospitality, construction and transportation academies will also be offered.

As far as construction costs are concerned, the state’s School Building Administration is paying for just over 51%. Construction is expected to be complete in 2020.

Also expected for the groundbreaking are State Senator Julian Cyr, representatives Sarah Peake, Will Crocker, Tim Whelan, Randy Hunt and David Viera. Massachusetts Education Commissioner Jeff Rielly and MSAB Executive Director are also expected.

The ceremony is scheduled for Friday morning at the school’s new location at 351 Pleasant Avenue in Harwich.

The public is invited.
