BUZZARDS BAY – After months of planning, Buzzards Bay Park will soon undergo a restoration and upgrade project.
A ground breaking ceremony will take place at the site on Monday at noon, with phase one of construction happening soon after.
“Phase one is focusing pretty much on infrastructure,” Main Street Steering Committee Chairperson Sallie Riggs said. “We’re installing irrigation, we’re upgrading the electrical system, we’re bringing water to the various points that we’re going to need it later on.”
Phase two of the project will include landscaping, a play area with a splash pad, a pavilion with an outdoor movie screen, and a Memorial Grove with a walkway.
Phase one is being funded with Community Preservation Act funds, phase two remains unfunded, and will commence when funding becomes available.
The restoration project is part of an effort to revitalize the Buzzards Bay area, as in addition to the park project, a hotel with conference is also in the works.
“You put those things together along with the restored park, you begin to see some things happening and that helps create the momentum that we need to be able to move forward,” Riggs said.
