Guest Conductors Announced for Pops By The Sea

Maury Povich Connie ChungHYANNIS – In a change from tradition, The Pops By The Sea concert will feature three guest conductors this year.

Organizers decided to have three guests join the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra for the event, in honor of three decades of the concert.

The guests are Charlie Gibson and Connie Chung from ABC News and syndicated talk show host Maury Povich.

“We are thrilled to have these three outstanding journalists as the Guest Conductors for this year’s 30th Anniversary Concert. Not only do they symbolize the three decades of this wonderful concert, but they are also a tribute to the very first three Guest Conductors—Art Buchwald, Walter Cronkite, and Mike Wallace—and more recent Guest Conductors Paula Zahn and last year’s Charlie Rose,” said David Kaplan, the Executive Director of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod

Gibson has spent more than 40 years in television journalism, with 33 of those spent at ABC News. Gibson anchored ABC’s flagship news broadcast, ABC World News, from 2006 to 2010.

Chung began her career in the early 1970s working as a correspondent for CBS News. She has spent time at all three major networks and moved to ABC in 1995 where she co-hosted 20/20 with Gibson.

Povich has hosted his syndicated day-time talk show, The Maury Povich Show, since 1991. He worked as a news reporter for various stations across the country dating back to the 1960s. He is married to Chung.

All three have vacation homes on Cape Cod.

“Three guest conductors, symbolic of the three decades of the concert. It’s very nice that all three have summer homes on the Cape and are very strongly tied to the Cape,” said Kaplan

Proceeds from the event support the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Arts Foundation at 508-362-0066 or online at www.popsbythesea.org.
