First Barnstable District
With the retirement of State Representative Cleon Turner, a Democrat from Brewster, two candidates are running for the open seat in the First Barnstable District.
The district includes part of the towns of Barnstable, Yarmouth and Brewster and all of the Town of Dennis.
On the Republican side, there is retired state police officer Tim Whelan of Brewster.
On the Democrat side is attorney Elisa Zawadzkas of Dennis.

Second Barnstable District
State Representative Brian Mannal, a Democrat who represents the Second Barnstable District, is being challenged by Adam Chaprales, a Republican, in the general election on November 4.
The district includes most of the Town of Barnstable plus two precincts in the Town of Yarmouth.

Fifth Barnstable District
State Representative Randy Hunt, a Republican who represents the Fifth Barnstable District, is being challenged by Matt Terry, a Democrat, in the general election on November 4.
The district includes the Town of Sandwich and parts of Bourne, Barnstable and Plymouth.

Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe is being challenged by attorney Rick Barry of Cotuit.

County Commissioner
With the retirement of longtime Barnstable County Commissioner Bill Doherty, there is an open seat on the three-person County Commission. Republican Leo Cakounes of Harwich and Democrat Mark Forest of Yarmouth are running for the seat. The County Commission is the executive branch of county government.

State Representative Vinny deMacedo of Plymouth, a Republican, is running against Democrat Matthew Patrick of Falmouth, a former state representative for the seat of retiring State Senate President Therese Murray. The district includes Falmouth, Sandwich and Bourne on Cape and Plymouth, Kingston, and Pembroke off Cape.

Ballot Questions 2014: Pro & Con
Question 1: Eliminate Gas Tax Indexing
Ballot Question 1 on the November 4 election ballot would repeal gas tax indexing. retiree John Wargin of Barnstable Village, who has helped campaign on behalf of the question, speaks in favor of the ballot question. Listen here.

Question 2: Expanding Bottle Bill

Question 3: Prohibit Casinos
