Guided Walk to Explore Cape Cod Nightlife on National Seashore

Walk leaders Marcus Hendricks and Todd Kelley.

EASTHAM – A guided walk will be held through the Cape Cod National Seashore later this month to explore the cultural history and natural nightlife of the region.

The Harwich Conservation Trust and Eastham Conservation Foundation sponsor the Nightlife Walk on Monday, June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Participants will join 12th generation Cape Codder Todd Kelley and native Wampanoag/Nipmuc Marcus Hendricks to learn about the lifeways of both First People and old Cape Codders in relation to wildlife behaviors at dusk into nighttime and the rhythms of moon phases.

The walk will take place close to the summer full moon in June, which is called the Strawberry Moon when naturally growing strawberries have ripened for gathering.

For the First People, the full moon phases signaled seasonal changes in activity.

Although the full moon will most likely not be seen during the walk, it’s influence will be discussed.

The walk, which is 1.5 miles, will explore the ways the natural world transitions from daytime to dawn and dusk.

The cost is $20 per person and registration is required. To register visit harwichconservationtrust.org.
