YARMOUTH – Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod celebrated their 29th Anniversary last week at their Annual Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation Celebration.
Over 200 Habitat volunteers, supporters and homeowners attended the event, which was held at St. David’s Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth.
The organization celebrated the building of 12 homes in the past year.
Habitat honored several local businesses, organization and individuals for their contributions.
“We’re celebrating all of the construction volunteers, all the fundraising volunteers, everyone who helped us with land and every bit of our operations,” said Habitat Executive Director Vikki Goldsmith.
The Truro Housing Authority and Highland Affordable Housing shared the “Community Partner Award” and J. Brown Landscaping was given the “Golden Hammer Business Award”.
Habitat also honored the longtime service of local volunteers and welcomed incoming board members.
Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has built more than 115 affordable homes on Cape Cod, including recently completed homes in Chatham, Yarmouth and Mashpee.
Six homes on the newly named Paul Hush Way in Brewster are underway and wall raisings for three new affordable homes in Truro are scheduled for this fall.
“We built homes with many people who have steady employment but they have some kind of sub-standard housing circumstances, rent-burden, double or tripled up, living in basements, that sort of thing,” said Goldsmith.
