BREWSTER – Dozens gathered in Brewster over the weekend for the official dedication of the Cape Cod Home Builders and Remodelers Association’s Blitz Build home.
The home was constructed from start to finish in a single week at the Habitat for Humanity development on Paul Hush Way off Tubman Road between Routes 124 and 137.
The contingent of volunteers were not deterred by last week’s rough weather, including rain and high winds resulting from Tropical Storm Jose.
“We have about 60 to 80 people a day on site,” said Peter Kimball, the owner of A P Kimball Construction and incoming board president of the association. “All of them are trade professionals. It’s a bit chaotic but we make it all happen.”
Work began with framing on Monday followed by electrical, mechanical and plaster board installation Tuesday. Interior finishes such as cabinets, plumbing fixtures and flooring were installed Wednesday. The home was painted on Thursday and last minute details and wrapping up was concluded on Friday.
“There’s a lot of cooperation that has to happen and we really appreciate the trade guys who are doing the work,” Kimball said. “[They] kind of pull it together and help us make it happen.”
The Blitz Build is part of the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod’s mission statement to support and promote workforce housing on Cape Cod.
“Our partnership with Habitat has been a good avenue for us to highlight that need and simultaneously we get to help Habitat produce a house which they greatly appreciate,” Kimball said. “I think the combination has been a good thing for both organizations over the last few years and we are excited to be doing it again.”
Previous blitz homes were built in 2013 in Orleans and 2015 in Harwich.
New home owner Jessie Cordova-Miranda who will reside in the Blitz Build home with her two daughters told the volunteers that she could not be more grateful.
“My dream was to own a house, but to actually see my house being built, no words can explain how grateful I am,” she said, “Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I just want Habitat to know that you have a friend for life.”
Once complete, the development will include 14 new homes built as part of Habitat of Cape Cod’s Green initiative, with each sporting a southern exposed roof ready for solar panels and will also utilize heat pumps.
