Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod to Launch New Affordable Housing Project Tonight

Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod Executive Director Vikki Goldsmith

MARSTONS MILLS – Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod will soon begin construction of four new affordable homes in Marstons Mills, and invite the public to a special kickoff celebration.

The celebration will take place tonight at the Liberty Hall Club in Marstons Mills at 5:30 p.m.

Those in attendance will learn more about the project, the organization, as well as meet the families who will benefit from these homes.

“These are the folks that after they help to build their home will purchase it with an affordable monthly payment that’s made affordable because of all the volunteer help, cash contributions, grants, and other ways people help us out,” said Vikki Goldsmith, Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod Executive Director.

The homes will be built on the newly constructed Dickinson Drive, named after the late Donald S. Dickinson of Sandwich, a long-time dedicated and generous volunteer of Habitat Cape Cod.

Goldsmith says the Town of Barnstable was instrumental in getting this project off the ground.

“We became aware of some community development block funds that the Town of Barnstable had that would be expiring soon and we were encouraged to look for land that could be purchased so that these funds could be dedicated to a site for affordable housing,” Goldsmith said.

Following the celebration, construction of the four new homes will begin on June 9.
