HAC Reschedules Bourne Big Fix

About_HACBOURNE – Housing Assistance Corporation has rescheduled its Big Fix event in Bourne this weekend.

Due to the uncertainty of this weekend’s weather, the event has now been re-scheduled to Saturday, October 24.

Event volunteers dedicate a few hours making small home improvements for their neighbors in need.

“This is to be a fun and a very helpful event,” said Bourne Town Administrator Thomas Guerino.

“The fun kind of goes away if you’re working in the rain so we’re really looking forward to the 24th and we think rescheduling is the smart thing to do.”

This will be the first time in its six-year history that the Big Fix will be postponed.

The event started in Barnstable in 2010 and is making its way to each town on Cape Cod.

Last year it was Yarmouth and next year it will be in Brewster.

“It’s supposed to be a special day,” said HAC’s project manager for the Big Fix, Kate Ferreira.

“It shouldn’t be a test of endurance, working in the rain, to get the jobs done.”

The details of this year’s event will still remain the same with the kick off taking place between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School on October 24.

Volunteers will then head to their homes by 9 at which time they will spend roughly three hours making minor home repairs including landscaping, painting, fence repair, trash removal and carpet replacing for 12 homeowners in Bourne.

This year, nine veterans were chosen including the widow of a World War II serviceman and a Vietnam veteran.
