HAC Seeks Applicants And Funding for Harwich Big Fix

HARWICH – The Housing Assistance Corporation’s Big Fix is taking place in Hawich on September 22nd

Anne Van Vleck, HAC’s Chief Development Officer, describes the type of recipients they are looking for.

“Veterans, seniors and the disabled, who are looking for some help with minor home repairs, yard work, and basic maintenance.  That long list that always piles up, for these people in need it’s a particularly daunting list,” she said.

Last year a record 340 volunteers answered the call.

They are still accepting applications from potential recipients.  Anyone wishing to do so can apply online at www.haconcapecod.org.  There are also hard copies available at several locations in Harwich.  The deadline is June 1st

In addition the HAC is looking for fundraising teams and sponsors.

Vleck says that the volunteers will experience an abundance of appreciation from the people they assist.

“It’s amazing to talk to them on the actual day.  They are completely overwhelmed with gratitude and joy.  They’re so humbled to have all of these people who are incredibly happy to be there to help and to make a difference,” she said.

Among the many ways the HAC is making a difference on the Cape and Islands including running four family homeless shelters, doing outreach to those living in the streets and wood and helping with homelessness prevention.
