HAC Seeks Volunteers for Harwich Big Fix

HARWICH – Housing Assistance Corporation is looking for volunteers willing to donate their time and energy to assist their neighbors in need for a few hours on Saturday, September 22nd.

The 9th annual Big Fix will be in Harwich this year.

The day of service assembles over 200 volunteers who make small home improvements for income-eligible seniors, veterans and disabled homeowners.

“It is a wonderful way to make a difference for people who don’t have the physical or financial capability to do these jobs themselves,” HAC Volunteer Coordinator Mary Everett-Patriquin said.

Barnstable hosted the first Big Fix event in 2010 and since then, it has been held in Sandwich, Dennis, Mashpee, Yarmouth, Bourne, Brewster and last year in Falmouth.

This year, HAC received a record 52 applications from homeowners seeking to be chosen as Big Fix recipients.

Of those52, HAC has selected 17 area homeowners who will benefit from the work.

HAC is seeking both skilled and unskilled volunteers who are willing to donate a few hours working on projects such as landscaping, trash removal, and small repairs.

The Harwich Big Fix will kick-off with check-in at 8 am at Monomoy Regional High School
