HAC Telethon to Benefit the Cape’s Homeless and Those Struggling to Find Housing

Housing Assistance Corporation

BARNSTABLE – A fundraiser this week will raise money for Housing Assistance Corporation’s (HAC) shelters across Cape Cod.

The 2016 Shelter Cape Cod Telethon begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, December 8th and can be watched live on Comcast cable channel 98 and online via HAC’s website, haconcapecod.org.

The event will feature performances from children’s choirs and local musicians, as well as commentary on the issues of homelessness and affordable housing from leaders in politics, nonprofits and other agencies.

Director of Fundraising and Community Development for HAC Laura Reckford said the biggest growth in homelessness in the commonwealth is among families and children.

“It’s devoted to our four family shelters and other programs we have which help homeless individuals, but also families and individuals in danger of becoming homeless,” Reckford said.

According to HAC, the four shelters housed nearly 500 homeless men and women and more than 190 children last year. Those facilities are located in Hyannis, North Falmouth, Bourne, and Yarmouth.

HAC offers a range of services to individuals and families in the region, including case management programs which check in on formerly homeless individuals who are now housed, homeless prevention outreach and housing placement.

The Angel House shelter on South Street in Hyannis works with families recovering from alcohol or drug abuse and can be reached at (508) 775-8045.
