HAC to Hold Info Session for Sachem’s Path Phase 2 on Nantucket

sachemspath_g1NANTUCKET – The second phase of the Sachem’s Path affordable housing development on Nantucket is underway and lottery applications are being accepted.

Housing Assistance Corporation is developing 22 homes and Habitat for Humanity is adding two more for Phase 2, which will take the project to a total of 40 units.

Laura Reckford, the director of community relations and fundraising for HAC, said the project is a great way to get the island’s workforce affordable places to live.

“Nantucket is almost an extreme example of what’s happening here on Cape Cod,” she said. “The people who hold the everyday jobs here, who live here year round, can’t afford it.”

HAC will hold an informational session about the Sachem’s Path project and the lottery application process on Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Nantucket High School.

Reckford said the project has drawn a lot of interest from island residents.

“We already before even announcing Phase 2 had more than 500 people asking for information about Phase 2,” she said.

Applications for Phase 2 are now available for download at www.sachemspath.org. They can also be picked up at the Nantucket Atheneum, Nantucket Town Hall, Housing Nantucket and the Nantucket Housing Authority. HAC will also have applications at its offices on West Main Street in Hyannis.

The deadline for applications is at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 4. They can be mailed to HAC at 460 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA 02601, faxed to 508-778-7514 or emailed to [email protected].

Sachem’s Path is located on 9.2 acres off Surfside Road.
