Harvard Gets $35 Million To Study Early Childhood Education

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Harvard University has received a $35 million donation to help study early childhood education.

The donation is the largest ever to Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. It comes from the Saul Zaentz Charitable Foundation.

Harvard says the donation will be used to conduct one of the largest studies on early education since the 1970s. The five-year study will follow a group of 3-year-old children to answer questions about the long-term effects of early education, how much to invest in preschool education and which models work best.

It will also help train teachers and offer fellowships to students studying early education.

Saul Zaentz was a film producer for three movies that won Best Picture Academy Awards, including “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” He died in 2014.
