HARWICH PORT – Business owners in Harwich Port are expressing concerns about a lack of available downtown parking as the summer season approaches.
New development projects including the Harwich Port Commons Building will make finding available spots even harder for visitors to the downtown area, according to Harwich Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cyndi Williams.
“The concern that we have is to just make sure we do have plenty of parking here for the public to enjoy the restaurants, the shops, the galleries that we have downtown,” Williams said.
Seventeen spots were recently added down the center of the municipal parking lot.
The Chamber is also working with Selectmen to add more spaces at the end of its parking lot at Pleasant Street.
“Everyone is working together because everyone wants all of the businesses to be successful, but also want all the people to be enjoying what we have here,” Williams said.
Williams said the town is conducting site plans and research for more parking at the location.
“I think there will be some additional parking there during the summer,” Williams said. “We are just waiting to get the final I’s dotted and T’s crossed on it.”
