HARWICH – Astronomy enthusiasts and those who simply love gazing at the stars are invited to join the Harwich Conservation Trust on a free stargazing night on Tuesday.
Amateur astronomer and Harwich resident Michael Payne will lead the free, interpretive night of stargazing on March 5 from 7:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m.
Michael will share observation tips as well as point out planets and constellations. Observe the winter constellations overhead and the spring constellations as they rise in the east.
Learn how to find the Pleiades and Hyades star clusters, the sword and belt of Orion, Sirius – the brightest star in the sky and other bright winter stars.
In the east, the constellation Leo the Lion heralds the coming of spring while the Great Bear has risen in the north east. Observe the planet Mars one last time before it disappears from the evening sky.
While the event is free, space is limited. The Trust recommends early registration to secure a spot. Participants will receive destination details and driving directions in a registration confirmation email.
