HARWICH – The Harwich Conservation Trust and the town’s department of conservation are inviting members of the public to step up to become a Land Steward Volunteer in the community.
What is a Land Steward Volunteer, you ask?
Well they walk designated property on a monthly basis either by trail, or boundaries taking note of stewardship concerns (encroachment, dumping/littering, vandalism, non-native invasive plant species, etc.).
They perform basic trail and sign maintenance, as needed using lopping shears, hand/bow saws or other hand tools. If needed, they remove non-native invasive plant species. They clear trails of fallen debris and remove trash.
Volunteers should have an interest in working outdoors and a commitment to conservation, and be Reliable, monthly visits to the designated property and reporting of activities.
Any necessary training will be provided and you can learn my by attending the Land Stewardship Volunteer Open House, Tuesday June 12th from 5:30 PM through 7:00 PM at the Harwich Community Center.
