Harwich Cranberry Festival Set For This Weekend

HARWICH – For the first time in a decade, fireworks return this fall to the Harwich Cranberry Festival.

The event will also have a new home this year behind the Harwich Community Center.

In addition to the Harwich Chamber of Commerce Fireworks, the festival will also include arts and crafts vendors and the Cran Jam.

The last time Harwich had fireworks in the fall was 10 years ago.

“It just seemed like perfect timing with the transition and the new growth of the festival to its bigger home behind the Community Center, which is such a great focal point for us in Harwich,” said Cyndi Williams, the interim executive director of the Harwich Chamber of Commerce.

The decision was made to bring back the fireworks after several meetings between the chamber, town departments, various committees and fire, police and water departments.

“It’s a big thing for Harwich and we’re really excited to be a part of it,” Williams said.

The Saturday of Harwich Cranberry Festival Weekend is full of events including arts and crafters from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Cran Jam from noon to 8 p.m. and then the fireworks show.

Also on Saturday, the Harwich Chamber will hold its Fall Business Expo inside of the Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Arts and crafts vendors will also be on hand Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Williams said the festival is a great opportunity to extend the summer season for local businesses.

“It’s great when the different towns and such can have festivals or big events to elongate that season,” she said.
