Harwich Fire Department Receives FEMA Grant Award

HARWICH – The Harwich Fire Department has received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant for over $93,000.

The award will allow the department to replace and upgrade automobile extrication equipment, plus provide funding for training firefighters on the new equipment.

The grant, which was issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA), is meant to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and fire-related hazards.

It’s the seventh award for the Harwich Fire Department since the program began, totaling more than $600,000 in equipment and training money.

“This grant program is an excellent opportunity for the department to upgrade equipment and provide critical training with a minimal impact to the taxpayers of the town,” said Chief Norman Clarke Jr.
