HARWICH – Harwich residents had a chance to meet the town’s new police chief last Monday.

David Guillemette, who has been on the job since July, joined some of the department’s new officers in greeting the public at the Harwich Community Center.

Guillemette said he wants to reach out to residents and has a number of speaking engagements scheduled.

“It’s just a chance for the public to meet me and maybe give the department a little input on how they feel about the PD and what issues they feel are important to them,” said Guillemette.

Guillemette previously worked for the Sandwich Police Department for 28 years before taking over the police chief duties from the retiring Bill Mason.

He believes that both the Sandwich and Harwich Police Departments have similarities.

“It’s a very similar community, I know the population is a little bit smaller in Harwich but the departments are the same size and I think we as communities face the same issues,” said Guillemette.
