HARWICH – The town of Harwich will enter into a statewide cultural agreement Monday.

The Harwich Cultural Council, Harwich Chamber of Commerce, Massachusetts Cultural Council and the town will partner to sign a Cultural Compact designed to increase collaboration and initiatives that support cultural and economic development.

The partnership will serve residents in the community through cultural activities and grant opportunities with a goal of fostering creative spirit.

The compact will include regular meetings, along with town-specific goals like consulting support for the Harwich Cultural Center, guidance on proposed artisan shacks at Saquatucket Harbor, and direction for the process of obtaining Cultural District designations for Harwich Port and Harwich Center.

The signing event is at 6:30 at the Harwich Board of Selectmen meeting.

Harwich is one of just six municipalities in the state chosen for the pilot initiative.
