HARWICH – Voters in Harwich will be asked to approve $500,000 during this May’s town meeting in an effort to purchase a 17-acre stretch of land along Muddy Creek.
The Harwich Conservation Trust has pledged at least $300,000 for the purchase of the land that’s currently for sale for $1.5 million and being marketed as a 12-lot subdivision.
With ongoing efforts to improve water quality in the Muddy Creek area, HCT Executive Director Michael Lach believes a housing development would hinder those efforts.
“We think a conservation outcome would be best just to continue the steps forward in improving the health of Muddy Creek and really the greater Pleasant Bay area,” Lach said.
Lach adds that the purchase price for the property is under negotiation and that talks are ongoing with the property owner.
