HARWICH – The Harwich Conservation Trust is two workshops in the next couple of months on wildlife tracking and beginner birding.

On Saturday, April 8, the wildlife tracking workshop will be held at Bell’s Neck Conservation Lands from 9-11:30 a.m.

Join Todd Kelley and learn how to interpret animal movements through the tracks and signs they leave behind.

Search for clues left by wildlife such as otter, fox, coyote, deer, raccoon, muskrat, skunk and even mink.

Workshop materials will be provided including tracking terminology and glossary, land mammal species checklist for Cape Cod and a comprehensive bibliography.

On Sunday, May 28, the birding for beginners workshop will be held at the Robert F. Smith Cold Brook Preserve from 8-10 a.m.

Join Todd Kelley for a workshop along a Bluebird Trail of nestboxes that host bluebirds, tree swallows and other songbird species.

Learn how to recognize and identify birds by sight and sound.

Distinguish telltale field marks such as the size and shape of bill, body size, wing shape, flight patterns and general behavior as well as plumage.

Also decipher the habitats that particular birds prefer as Todd teaches how interpret bird tracks and sign.

The cost to participate in each workshop is $15 per person and limited space is available.
