CATAUMET – Children whose families are homeless have a wide array of needs, but one need is very simple. They need people to play with them.

That’s where the agency Horizons for Homeless Children comes in.

Meghan Shafer, director of Playspace Programs at Horizons for Homeless Children, said, “We work to improve the lives of young children experiencing homelessness, specifically children not yet of school age.”

The agency also tries to find early education, works on advocacy on the issue of homelessness, and also works to provide children care for children.

“We work to provide comprehensive services to help these families and these children heal from what they’ve been through and get back on their feet,” she said.

The agency looks for volunteers to play with homeless children at its playspaces, including at five locations on Cape Cod in Cataumet, North Falmouth and Hyannis.
