SANDWICH – Heritage Museums & Gardens will once again be the place to be for families on Halloween as the gardens and galleries will be open later this month with Halloween-themed activities.
The two day event, taking place on Friday, October 25th and Saturday, October 26th will begin with a costume parade with Sandwich school representatives.
Other activities to be held nightly include a dance party hosted by DJ Ooch, themed-photo op in a 1913 Model T Ford, fireside entertainment, giant foam buildings blocks, Halloween-themed story time and crafts, a storybook walk at the Hundred Acre School, a scavenger hunt, and free rides on the vintage carousel.
Seasonal drinks and snacks will also be available for purchase at the Magnolia Café.
“It is a really fun event, Heritage really becomes the place for safe Halloween family fun,” said Heather Meade, Director of Visitor Engagements for Heritage.
“All of our gardens and galleries are open with the addition of tons of Halloween themed activities.”
Heritage is partnering with the STEM Academy and Sandwich High School Parent Teacher Student Association (SHS PTSA) to offer the family friendly event.
Visitors will also have an opportunity to increase their support of the STEM and SHS PTSA by participating in special ticketed activities.
“It’s so important to us to really be a community hub but also to support the good work that our Sandwich Public Schools are doing and our partners at the parent teacher association are doing,” continued Meade.
Proceeds from admission and ticked activities directly support students and teachers at the STEM Academy and Sandwich High School.
Funds generated from this event got to Sandwich Soul for their competition trip, the Junior Class Prom, Senior Week and Graduation Activities, and the PTSA General Fund’s activities, including the Senior Scholarship Program, student socials, teacher grants, teacher appreciation, and parent guest speakers.
“Our team at Heritage loves working with our partners, the STEM and SHS PTSA to produce this Halloween experience with activities not only for families with young children, but also especially designed for teens and tweens,” says Anne Scott-Putney, President and CEO of Heritage Museums & Gardens.
“With two nights of Halloween fun, visitors have twice the chance to celebrate and know that their admission fee supports our local students.”
Visitors who choose to participate in the carnival-style games will get to try out the new age-specific games.
Little kids will be able to play candy corn bowling, with ring toss, Velcro darts, and face painting, while teens and tweens will enjoy their own dedicated fun zone that includes Nerf games, Minute-to-Win-It style challenges, basketball shoot-out, a Fortune Teller, and glitter tattoos.
Returning this year are the ever popular Cake Walk, with chances to win beautiful and delicious cakes, and the Haunted Maze with both scary and non-scary options.
Proceeds from the Cake Walk support Sandwich Soul, while the Haunted Maze benefits the PTSA general fund.
Tickets for all of these special activities are cash only and may be purchased the night of the event at each individual activity.
Another new addition to this year’s festival are raffles being offered by Heritage and the STEM and SHS PTSA.
Various age-specific prizes, such as gift cars, movie tickets, and candy will be available at each game zone for participants to enter with tickets purchased from the PTSA.
Heritage will do a drawing at the end of each night for an Admit 4 Membership.
Visiting families simply fill out a raffle ticket to enter, tickets will be sent home on the flyers given to all Sandwich Public School Students, and they will also be available at the event.
The festival will be held no matter the weather, rain or shine.
Visitors are encouraged to dress in costume and wear comfortable footwear to walk to all activities.
A shuttle will also be available to assist those who need help moving around the grounds.
The festival will take place between 5 and 8:30 p.m. both nights, admission is $5 per person, with children two and under free, and a maximum of $25 per family.
All Heritage activities are included with admission.
