‘Heroes for Nero’ Event Tonight to Benefit Cape & Islands Police K-9 Relief Fund

Yarmouth Police officer Sean Gannon was shot and killed in the line of duty. End Of Watch 4/12/18 RIP

WEST YARMOUTH – A fundraiser for the Cape & Islands Police K-9 Relief Fund in honor of slain Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon and his partner Nero will be held tonight in West Yarmouth.

Heroes for Nero will include music by DJ Drew Panico, food and drinks from donors including Dennisport House of Pizza, Devil’s Purse Brewing Co., DPM Meat Commander, Camp Wingate-Kirkland and Eat Cake 4 Breakfast, and live and silent auction items.

The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. at Howl-A-Day Inn of Cape Cod Boarding, Daycare & Training on Industrial Park Road. The fundraiser is a rain or shine event and will be held under a tent.

Gannon was shot and killed last month while serving an arrest warrant in Marstons Mills and his partner Nero continues to recover from wounds suffered in the incident.

The K-9 Relief Fund supports police service dogs in their retirement.

Tickets are available at http://heroesfornero.eventbrite.com for $50. Admission is free for first responders with valid ID. First responders are still asked to RSVP via the Eventbrite link.

For safety reasons Heroes for Nero is a humans-only event.

According to the Yarmouth Police Department, Nero is not retired at this time and is still recovering. Costs for Nero’s surgery and present care are the responsibility of the department. When he retires he will be eligible to benefit from the relief fund.
