Heroes In Transition Seeking Volunteers, to Hold Breakfast Event Friday

MASHPEE – Heroes In Transition is looking to expand its volunteer base and will host an informational breakfast Friday in Mashpee.

The nonprofit provides assistance and support to veterans, active duty service members, and military families.

Heroes In Transition Executive Director Nicole Spencer said more volunteers are needed as the organization continues to grow its programs and services.

Like many other nonprofits, Spencer said HIT relies heavily on the help of volunteers.

“There is always an opportunity for someone to be able to help,” Spencer said.

The Volunteer Breakfast will provide information about the organization and recruit Cape Codders to assist with its programs.

The breakfast is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Christ the King Parish Hall on Job’s Fishing Road in Mashpee.

“We have so many great volunteers who have helped us, not only with our Ruck for HIT Relay Race through all of the towns on Cape Cod, but we also rely on volunteers to help us with the difference programs that we do for our veterans and military families,” Spencer said.

HIT offers several programs and services, including a Canine Co-Pilot program; equine therapy through its Families In Transition Week; financial support; bimonthly outings for military couples, veterans and military spouses; family events; a fall couples retreat; fishing charters and more.

The organization is also seeking volunteers for its 5K road race on September 29 to help with parking and registering runners.

“We are always just looking for people to help us in other ways as well, even if it is doing some mailings or helping us with odds and ends for our big gala,” Spencer said.

HIT’s 10^th Annual Fall Gala is October 4 at the Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.

Spencer said volunteering is a great way for the community to get involved with the things the organization is doing for our local military and allows people who many not be able to make monetary donations to give back.

“So many civilians are looking for ways to give back to the people who really do protect us day in and day out, 24-7, 365 days a year,” Spencer said.

Spencer said one of the most exciting things for the organization is to find ways for the civilian community to get involved with the military community.
