PROVINCETOWN – Hillary Clinton, the democratic frontrunner for President, will visit Provincetown today to attend a major fundraiser at a private waterfront home on the far west end of Commercial Street.

The former secretary of state, who is also former first lady, will fly in to Provincetown Airport to attend the afternoon party, which takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the home of Boston Realtor Dan Mullin.

Alix Ritchie, former publisher of the Provincetown Banner newspaper, and Boston event planner Bryan Raffanelli are hosting the event.

“Provincetown is very excited,” said Ritchie, who also said she believes it is Clinton’s first trip to the town at the Cape’s tip.

Ritchie says about 300 people will attend the gala with about half of those paying $2,700, the maximum donation allowed in a primary election. Those donors will get to meet Clinton in a smaller setting. The other half of the attendees will have paid $1,000.

Clinton will give a talk to the entire gathering and hold a question and answer session, Ritchie said.

“It’s huge. All of Provincetown, I have to say, is just abuzz about this,” she said, adding that she believes the event is at capacity.

Ritchie said the party was planned about one month ago, but coincidently it comes just a few days after the Supreme Court’s recent ruling affirming gay marriage. Ritchie said Clinton will likely make some comments about the ruling.

Ritchie said Clinton enjoys strong support among the gay community and many in attendance are hoping she becomes the first woman President of the United States.

Ritchie said because of the busy July 4 weekend, there will not be an opportunity to tour Clinton around Provincetown.

“The town is already pretty wall to wall when it comes to July 4 weekend,” she said.

As to how Ritchie will explain the town to Clinton, Ritchie said, “I’ll tell her that she’s in an absolutely magical place. Provincetown is a place on the edge and has been on the edge historically since the Puritans first arrived here.”

After the Provincetown gathering, the former first lady will head to Osterville to attend another fundraiser.

Ritchie said she hopes Clinton can be convinced to return to the Cape during the campaign, but, in the meantime, she is excited to have this opportunity to host Clinton.

“I’m personally elated. It’s a huge affirmation of our community and Provincetown and the history of the Cape and it’s just great,” Ritchie said.
