Historic Canal-Side Rail Station to be Refurbished

railroad crossingBUZZARDS BAY – A landmark building along the Cape Cod Canal is about to be refurbished.

The interior of the Buzzards Bay train station will undergo multiple repairs, after Bourne voters allowed $91,630 of Conservation Preservation funds to cover costs.

Cape Cod Canal Chamber of Commerce President Marie Oliva said the station will receive window replacements, a roof leak fix, floor repairs, and other enhancements.

“We want to replicate the authenticity of the building,” she said of the station, which was constructed beginning in 1910.

Work is expected to start later this month or in early November, and be completed before the spring tourist season begins, she said.

The makeover is on the heels of a similar project proposed for the nearby Main Street Park.
