10th Annual Christmas Care Package Packing Party for Troops Set for Saturday

HYANNIS – The 10th annual Christmas Care Package party held by Cape Cod Cares for the Troops, will be this Saturday from 10:00-4:00.

“This year we’re in the Sports Authority building right in Hyannis.  It makes it easier for everybody to take part in this,” said co-founder Michelle DeSilva.

The building is on Rt. 132 in the KMart Plaza.

“We, in one day, are going to try to put together and get ready to mail 1500 Christmas care packages for our deployed troops,” said DeSilva.

If you wish to help, you can collect supplies, make a donation to help with the cost of shipping, or volunteer to help prepare the packages for mailing.

The organization was started eleven years ago by then 12-year old Dylan DeSilva.

Since then, 25,000 care packages have been sent to our troops.  The cost of supplies and shipping exceeds $25,000.  DeSilva said monetary donations have been slow, and they’re asking businesses and organizations to make a $100 donation if possible.
