ORLEANS – Since 1993, the Homeless Prevention Council’s Adopt-a-Family program has helped Lower Cape families in need experience a warm and happy holiday.
Donors can choose the gift to give: clothing, toys, bicycle, a gift card for a teenager, or if you don’t have time to shop, the organization has got you covered.
“If you’re too busy to shop and want to send a cash donation, we have special shoppers who will shop for the kids that don’t get adopted,” said Maurean Linehan, program coordinator.
Last year alone, more than 300 children in 137 families were given gifts, and lessening the financial burden for these families during the holidays can really make a difference.
“Our families work real hard to get themselves through the winter and Christmas is an added expense that isn’t in the budget and the reason we do this is to help them,” Linehan said. “If we make Christmas happen, they can pay their rent.”
Gifts can be brought to 14 Old Tote Road in Orleans, and monetary donations can be sent to the Homeless Prevention Council, Adopt-A-Family Program, P.O. Box 828, Orleans, MA 02653.
