HARWICH PORT – Honorees of the 8th Annual Summer Gala for the Family Pantry of Cape Cod have been announced.
Every year, the gala supports the Family Pantry of Cape Cod and the clients they serve.
This year, the event will feature food and drinks along with Boston’s very own “World Premiere Band” to dance to. The gala is held this year at the scenic Wychmere Beach Club, overlooking Nantucket Sound and Wychmere Harbor on Snow Inn Road in Harwich Port from 5:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m.
Benefit Chairs Tom and Shelly O’Neill along with their committee are putting together an evening to remember while raising funds for The Family Pantry of Cape Cod. They are acquiring support from many area sponsors. Sponsorship levels for those wishing to participate range from $10,000 to $500.
This year’s Honorees have been announced:
2019 Founders Award
The Founders Award recognizes a person or organization that demonstrates dedication and passion for helping their neighbors across the Cape. This year’s recipient is The Cape Cod Potters and Soup Bowls for Hunger. The Cape Cod Potters have hosted the Soup Bowls for Hunger event for the past 27 years and have generated over $350,000 for the Family Pantry. President Gail Turner and the club members work with the Cape Cod Tech Culinary Department and several civic organizations, including the Girl Scouts and Americorp, to make this an annual event. Potters ranging from professionals to students create the soup bowls and donate their art. Soup Bowls for Hunger is always a sellout with over 600 people coming from across the Cape to attend this simple meal. It reminds us all that hunger is pervasive and people throughout the Cape are affected.
2019 President’s Award
The President’s Award recognizes a person or organization that has consistently demonstrated a significant commitment to the Pantry’s mission of providing food and clothing to those in need. This year The Chatham Wayside Inn Owners, Shane Coughlin and Gail & David Oppenheim will be recognized for over 25 years of support of the Family Pantry. Shane Coughlin and the Oppenheim’s have supplied 1000’s of Thanksgiving turkeys, goods for the Second Glance Thrift Boutique, a venue for many volunteer celebrations, and considerable funding for Pantry initiatives; including, kicking off the Family Pantry’s “Shop for the Hungry” capital campaign.
Proceeds from the Gala will benefit the Family Pantry of Cape Cod the largest food pantry on Cape Cod serving anyone in need with no restrictions, geographic or otherwise.
