HYANNIS – The largest non-profit hospice and palliative care organization will be formed after HopeHealth and Home Care & Hospice of New England announced an affiliation.
The partnership will serve patients from Rhode Island through eastern Massachusetts.
“What we are doing is coming together under a parent nonprofit entity that will be named HopeHealth that will provide direction and management support services,” said HopeHealth CEO David Rehm.
Home Care & Hospice of New England is the parent of Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, which is the second oldest hospice in the country, and Visiting Nurse Home Care.
HopeHealth, which is headquartered in Hyannis on Attucks Lane, provides a wide range of medical care, care management and support servies addressing chronic care through end of life in eastern Massachusetts.
“All three of those organizations will continue as nonprofits,” Rehm said. “Their boards will continue in place and all of their services and programs will continue.”
The move will allow all the organizations to advance their shared mission of helping those with serious illness to enhance their quality of life.
The affiliation will create a diversified, $75 million regional organization that hopes to compete with larger healthcare companies by expanding services and programs and recruiting talented healthcare professionals.
“By combining our talents, resources and complementary services, we will become a stronger, better organization,” said Home Care & Hospice of New England President and CEO Diana Franchitto. “This will ensure our long term strength and viability.”
Franchitto, who will lead the new parent organization, said Rehm will be retiring.
Rehm said current patients will not have to worry about any changes to their service as a result of the new affiliation.
“All of our employees and all of our programs will continue just as they have under HopeHealth,” Rehm said. “Their caregivers will not change. We are not anticipating any staff reductions at this point.”
