BOSTON – The Massachusetts House recently passed a $3 billion environmental bond bill which included three funding amendments for Mid and Lower Cape communities.
The bill provides a five-year blue print for environmental spending by the state.
State Representative Tim Whelan (R-Brewster) helped to secure a total of $1.7 million for Dennis, Harwich and Yarmouth’s Clean Waters Community Partnership and culvert improvements and retaining wall restoration in Brewster.
The Clean Waters Community Partnership would receive $1 million for planning, design, and engineering costs.
The partnership was created to solve wastewater issues through a regional effort over a shared watershed.
A retaining wall restoration at the Herring Run in Brewster would receive $400,000 and $300,000 would be used towards a wing wall extension to the Freemans Pond Culvert at Paines Creek Beach.
“This is just the first step in a very long process, but I’m pleased we were able to get the ball rolling by securing preliminary funding approval for these important projects that will benefit local residents,” Whelan said. “I also want to thank Representatives Sarah Peake (D-Provincetown) and Will Crocker (R-Centerville) for their co-sponsorship and support in getting these amendments passed”.
The bill now heads to the Senate for further action.
