BOSTON – Cape and Islands state legislators joined their colleagues in a unanimous vote in support of a bill aimed at developing a state plan to address Alzheimer’s disease and non-Alzheimer’s dementia.
The bill calls for expanding clinical research, training, treatment, and care of individuals in Massachusetts suffering with cognitive impairments.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, a number that is expected to climb. Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, and 1 out of every 3 seniors die with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
The bill now moves to the senate for further action.
