Household Hazardous Waste Collection Begins for Eastham, Orleans Residents

BARNSTABLE VILLAGE – A household hazardous waste collection for Eastham and Orleans residents kicks off on Saturday, May 18 at the Eastham DPW, 555 Old Orchard Rd., from 9am to noon.

Residents who aren’t sure what’s acceptable can check the 2019 HHW brochure, or pick up a brochure at either the Eastham or Orleans town halls.

Brochures can also be downloaded from loveyourlocalwater.org.

Business owners can take advantage of the opportunity to dispose of hazardous and toxic materials that can pose harm by contaminating groundwater, lakes, ponds and soil in the event of a hurricane or other emergency.

In 2018, they brought pesticides, solvents, oil-based and alkyd paints, paint thinners and strippers, and other products that can harm people or the environment.

The fee for disposal is based on the type of materials disposed of.

Interested businesses can call Kalliope Chute, Hazardous Materials Environmental Specialist for Barnstable County and Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, at 508-375-6699 for more information.
