HYANNIS – When Housing Assistance Corporation celebrates its 45th anniversary on Wednesday, May 8 at the Cape Cinema in Dennis, it will also honor residents, businesses and organizations that are stepping up to build a stronger, more vibrant community.
This year’s honorees will include Jim Hinkle and Roy Hammer of Cummaquid, who will receive the Lifetime Benefactor Award; Secure Jobs Initiative of Southeastern Massachusetts SER-Jobs for Progress, Inc. which will receive the Human Services Partner of the Year Award; and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, the Cape Cod & Islands Association of REALTORS and the Association to Preserve Cape Cod which will receive the Business Partner of the Year Award.
The event will also recognize Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, as the Keystone Investor in Housing Assistance’s “Investors of Building Communities and Hope” campaign. Cape Cod Five matched $45,000 that Housing Assistance has received from three community investors to invest in its newly formed Housing Legacy Fund at the Cape Cod Foundation. Cape Cod Five President and CEO Dorothy Savarese will speak about her bank’s commitment to the community and its support of Housing Assistance’s mission.
“No one agency can solve our region’s housing needs alone. We are grateful for the efforts of individuals, organizations and businesses that are helping build a strong future for our region through housing,” said Housing Assistance CEO Alisa Magnotta Galazzi. “Each of this year’s recipients are making extraordinary efforts to ensure we create housing solutions that work for our communities. In doing so, they are positively impacting the economy as well as the lives of individuals and families.”
Since 1994, Hinkle and Hammer have donated annually to Housing Assistance Corporation and will join the agency’s quarter century club this year. The pair, who previously owned Cummaquid Fine Arts on Route 6A, have lived on Cape Cod for the past 33 years and have dedicated themselves to supporting local organizations like Housing Assistance.
Earlier this year, Housing Assistance announced a partnership with SER-Jobs to support those most in need on Cape Cod and the Islands. Operating out of Housing Assistance’s office in Hyannis, SER-Jobs is making its services more accessible to Housing Assistance clients. These services include resume writing, job search, transportation coordination, child care assistance, and financial assistance.
This year’s final recipients came together with Housing Assistance in February to form the Future Cape Cod Coalition. The four agencies are asking municipal leaders to allocate a portion of the revenue towns will receive from the new short-term rental tax to fund the region’s long-term infrastructure needs in housing, wastewater, broadband, transportation, and competitive marketing of Cape Cod.
