Housing Assistance Corporation Celebrates 45 Years of Service on Cape Cod

DENNIS – Forty-Five years of working to provide safe and stable housing for Cape Cod residents was celebrated by a local organization on Wednesday night.

Housing Assistance Corporation held its 45th Anniversary celebration as HAC staff, supporters and members of the community gathered at the Cape Cinema in Dennis.

The event included a presentation by HAC CEO Alisa Galazzi, an awards celebration, and the recognition of a community member. A cocktail reception followed at the Cape Cod Museum of Art.

“Tonight is celebrating our 45 years in service. Housing Assistance Corporation has been adding housing inventory and also helping the homeless get homes. We’ve been running our homeless shelters for 45 years,” said Galazzi.

“It’s a celebration of our accomplishments. Our founder is going to be here, Rick Presbrey. We’re honoring several people, some donors, and the Bank President of Cape Cod 5 Savings Bank, who stepped up and made a significant donation to our organization, helping us start our Housing Legacy Fund.”

Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank recently stepped up as a Keystone Investor for HAC by matching total investments of $45,000.

Galazzi said the region needs different kinds of housing that is affordable for the types of jobs on Cape Cod.

“I started as CEO two years ago, so the past two years has been a worldwind of activity and getting the ship in a new direction with a focus on middle income, low income, and housing inventory,” she said.

Other HAC events throughout the year include the Walk for Hope on June 2; Oysters & Champagne on July 11; the Big-Fix-A-Thon on October 5 and the Telethon for HOPE: Give-A-Thon on December 12.

HAC operates four family homeless shelters, develops affordable housing, oversees Section 8 vouchers, conducts foreclosure and reverse mortgage counseling, holds educational workshops for first-time homebuyers and keeps residents in their homes through a homelessness prevention program.
